Mainly because it was one of the cheapest brands and I seem to remember that they were available in ‘refill’ packs of 5 or 10. These paper wrappers were part of the war effort to save the tin foil and cardboard used in the regular packets. If we were broke AND lucky, we might find a tobacconist who’d split a pack and sell us singles!

Unfortunately nowadays, it seems that EVERYBODY is smoking....Not much of a stigma left on THAT habit....

You should see the Greeks when it comes to smoking! Cigarettes here are so
cheap that they could almost be given away with cornflakes.

tempered by the fact that we were young enough not to know much about a
time when it was ot normal for death to be falling from the sky at any
