A short time after we first met, Faith asked me to explain jazz. An impossible task, or so I thought at the time.
I introduced her to such performers as Fats Waller, Nina Simone, Chet Baker (she loved the depth of emotion in his playing and singing) and various others. Her response encouraged me to write a biographical piece called Jazz Journey which would explain my relationship with and fondness for the music. I followed this up with an audio cassette of twelve favourite recordings.
That was ten years ago.
I recently came across the rather dusty cassette and then unearthed the Jazz Journey text file on the PC. I mixed them together and created a music CD with commentary for friends and family.
I can't upload a 50 minute audio file but here is the text. Maybe some jazz fans (and others) out there will be entertained.
